How is it linked?

Gum Disease ( Gingivitis & Periodontitis ) has been quite conclusively linked to dementia and Alzheimer's disease in multiple studies. Like other "systemic connections" involving periodontal disease, not all is understood about the mechanisms of this process other that the fact that inflammatory molecules become blood born and are picked up by the brain tissue. This is also true concerning cardiovascular disease and the inflammatory effects of gum disease, which is a well documented phenomena in itself.

What can you do?

Good daily care and routine professional maintenance visits all essential in keeping a healthy disease-free mouth and thus avoiding periodontal disease as a systemic risk factor.
